Be a Merchant Partner

American Express Incentive Services periodically adds new merchants to our DirectSpendSM program. Such partners must:

  • Provide a rewarding and memorable experience for cardholders

  • Fill a category gap in our current redemption options

  • Represent a "niche" category and have stand-alone, national brand presence. An example would be a merchant who can draw reward earners as a "destination" retailer (i.e., Macy's)

  • Have broad geographical coverage - physical locations and an e-commerce website

  • Convey a "trophy value" message to reward earners, focused on the intrinsic value of their products and services

  • Identify with quality products, be well respected in the industry and adhere to high customer service standards

  • Realize the value of incremental sales opportunities and be willing to pay the prevailing commission fee

  • Support and enhance the appropriate balance of existing merchant partners and their products/services

  • Preferably not franchised; if franchise locations exist, ALL must accept American Express® Cards and ALL must participate in the program

  • Have the ability to process invoices through a central billing system

  • Adhere to a standard operational processing infrastructure

  • Be approved from a financial risk perspective

  • Be in good standing as a merchant with American Express Establishment Services
