Description

Queens to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway over Newtown Creek and currently serves over 200,000 commuters per day. This project included the replacement of Kosciuszko Bridge, the first cable-stayed bridge in New York City. Construction on the Queens-bound Kosciuszko Bridge commenced in 2014 to rehabilitate the main span cable and add the new approaches in Brooklyn and Queens.

Scope

AEIS performed welding and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections on this project to ensure that project materials were fabricated in accordance with project specifications, codes, and standards. Our team determined quality outcomes through the identification of non-conformances and discontinuities in project materials. Project owner confidence was enhanced through daily collaboration with the quality assurance team.

  • AWS-certified welding inspectors applied their expertise at the fabrication shop prior to materials being sent to the project site. Inspectors determined if welding activities met project specifications, codes, and safety requirements.
  • SNT-TC-1A Level II-certified NDT technicians performed structural magnetic particle and ultrasonic testing at the fabrication shop.
