Passive Fire Code Inspections

Firestopping and Fireproofing Special Inspections

Passive fire protection systems—such as firestopping and fireproofing—play a crucial role in limiting fire spread and protecting structural elements during a fire event. Under RCNY 101-06 and Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Code, both fireproofing and firestopping are classified as Special Inspections and must be installed in accordance with UL/FM tested systems, manufacturer instructions, and project specifications.

AEIS provides comprehensive inspection and testing services to verify that fire-resistive assemblies, sprayed fire-resistive materials (SFRMs), and intumescent coatings are installed correctly and will perform as intended. Our inspections ensure code compliance, proper field execution, and early identification of deficiencies—minimizing rework and maintaining construction schedules.
