Half Cell Potential Difference Test

The Half-Cell Potential Test is a non-destructive electrochemical method used to assess the likelihood of corrosion activity in steel reinforcement embedded within concrete structures. It is especially useful for in-situ evaluationof corrosion conditions during the lifecycle of a structure.

This test involves measuring the electrical potential difference between an embedded reinforcing bar (rebar) and a reference electrode placed on the concrete surface. The results can indicate whether the embedded steel is at risk of corrosion.
