Soil Inspections

This lab is equipped with modern furnaces, automatic sieve shakers, compactors and other equipment. AMRL accreditation for the lab is awaited shortly;

Tests are performed per ASTM D1557, D1140, D6913, D4643, D422, D854, D1721, C97, C99, D1883, D2166, D2080, D12487, D2488, , and other applicable codes/ standards/ specifications.

Where shallow foundations [does it have to be shallow?] Will bear on compacted fill material, inspections must be carried out in order to verify the material and procedures set forth by the design professional. These verifications typically include but are not limited to: site preparation, material properties, fill thickness, and degree of soil compaction.

Soils- fill placement and in place soil density using nuclear gage:
•    Site preparation must be inspected for completion
•    A sample of the material intended for use as controlled fill is tested by a laboratory to confirm that the material properties meet specifications.
•    During placement, an acceptable fill thickness must be verified. If the lifts are placed too thick, the contractor will not be able to properly compact the lower elevations.
•    During placement, an acceptable fill thickness must be verified.
•    Testing to the number and frequency of each lift per your specifications will be performed by a qualified technician using either nuclear densometer or other methods if specified.
