Determining the root cause of the failure is often the fundamental part of a failure investigation. Several factors including, material or manufacturing defect, installation error, product misuse, or product wear can result in a failure. A failure analyst uses a wide range of tools and tests to collect evidences needed to make conclusions regarding root cause(s) of failure.
